What service do I need?
If you have emotional pains, lingering dissatisfaction, or problems based more on relationships or life circumstances (other than a job-related issue), then Individual Counseling is the service that will best fit your needs.
If your unmet goals or frustrations relate to a marriage or family problem, then Family Counseling is the service to use.
If you are tired of or dissatisfied with your current job or career, and if you wish to pursue work with more meaning and fulfillment, then it is likely that Life Story Coaching is the service to use. If you have an unresolved conflict about a particular issue with a family member, co-worker, neighbor or customer, then Mediation is the service to use. If you are a physician (or other health professional) with communication problems with patients, nurses, other staff members or other doctors, then Physician Coaching is the service to use. If discovering and practicing important values in your workplace is your goal, then Leadership Consulting is the service to use. What are the fees for services? My fees are affordable, because I have a sliding scale. With any new client, we negotiate a mutually agreeable per-hour fee for the counseling I provide. It is based on both what is affordable for you, and me, and takes into account standard, market-value rates for counseling services as well as your income and financial circumstances. My sliding scale allows those with special circumstances or lower incomes to work with me. Can I get reimbursement from my insurance company for counseling? Sometimes, but generally not. But I will file forms or send those letters that your insurance company requires to help you pursue your reimbursement for fees paid to me. How long are counseling sessions? The length of each session will be up to a scheduled maximum, which can be a minimum of an hour, and can be more hours. For local, Kansas City Area clients, the usual maximum session is three hours. But due to the nature of the session it be less than that. Clients only pay for the actual length of the session. For clients who are out of town, the maximum length of a given session may be longer to reduce the costs of travel to my office, and to achieve the benefits of longer, intensive sessions. Also, we may supplement in-person sessions with telephone sessions to save out of town clients the costs of travel to my office. Which methods will we use in our sessions? The methods of counseling are selected by a combination of your interests, situation and goals, and my three decades of counseling and clinical experience. For more details about these processes, see the part of this website under the category of Methods. How many sessions will I need? It can be as few as one and as many as dozens over a period of years. It depends on your situation. Some of my clients participate in counseling to achieve a narrow, simple goal. Others seek to achieve broader, deeper, more complex goals, or a series of goals through time. In any case, you determine the goals in consultation with me. And you determine how many sessions you need. How can I get other questions answered that are not answered here? Just send me an e-mail or call. I'll do my best to answer any questions you have, and do so in a timely manner. |
